Speaking at the Norway Arctic Roundtable on 26 June, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar stated: “Many of you know that we are currently in the final stages of a rigorous review of Shell’s proposal to drill exploratory wells in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas this summer.

abcdMA said "more domestic supply is always good " Trouble is most of the pipeline oil will wind up being exported to the highest bidder overseas. Big Oil like to control the domestic supply and price this way.

Wow! Just like presidential elections. Neither choice is any good. You wonder how these choices could have been elevated to this place. Then you have to figure out which is the lessor of two evils. (The lessor of two evils is still evil.)

Now we have to decide where do we want the next BIG oil spill to happen.

personally...it's very irritating reading the U.S. usual junk....maybe what Canada should do is keep their own oil, refine it and use it. Let me see how this would play out for our sometimes friendly neighbour to the South...NO jobs building the XL pipeline....NO jobs in keeping the pipeline safe and secure...NO jobs refining any product coming from Canada because your services will not be needed...NO jobs transporting this product elsewhere...(maybe back to Canada or out of Texas to China)...we will just continue the quest for a pipeline to B.C. and eliminate all of these jobs in the states...WHAT A GREAT IDEA...
and we don't even have an election coming for 3 more years...

Hopefully, precautions will be taken to protect the Alaskan wildlife and landscape. Let's not barrel ahead, but take things slowly.

So far Alaska oil fields have been the cleanest and best managed. Wildlife is doing quite well. I have family that works on the north slope and the photos of all the wildlife is amazing!

Didn't Shell just read that last article that said demand has dropped to nothing worldwide? Why drill at all? Does anyone look at these articles before they post them?
