As for the battery it has an 8 year warrantee and will likely last 2 or 3 times that long.
98% of car batteries are recycled and I will ensure that mine is too.

Actually I bought one.
The sticker price was very high. But once I included the fact that I would save $100/bi-weekly in gas, I realized that my electric was a bargain.
Now that gas prices have jumped again, I am saving even more.
P.S. Fortunately, we have clean cheap power in Manitoba, so the first year, 10000 km (6000 miles) cost me $76. Oh ya, because our power is hydro generated, it is so clean that it created less CO2 than 1 litre of gas (1/4 of a gallon) :-)
I plug in every night and it is full every morning. I drive by gas stations all day. It is too easy. I will never buy a gas car again.

no, and its horrible technology. at some point the battery that holds charge will die and most likely will be improperly discarded. its a bigger environmental waste in long run than an emissions relief for short run.

no. I would not even think about it. they are the most stupidest thing someone ever invented. They are not helping the environment. They have a 2200# battery in them that can not be recycled and is useless, plus not to mention all the energy it takes to power the machine that is turning water into electricity. I personally think they are useless and i want to give them a good old fashioned shove when they are in front of me holding up traffic.

No not at these prices. plus the charging systems and batteries are problematic for long distance. I like the hybrid system in the Chevy volt and the hybrid diesel to electric system similar to the volt in the BMWs latest concept car.

Yes... Can hardly wait for when the price get around S20,000. If I need to make a long trip. I can always rent from a rent-a-car place. Sure it is money but I only go out of town 1 time a year. A 900 mile trip to see my Mom at Christmas. My local driving is generally less than 20 miles a day. 45 miles if I go across town. (Which I do rarely) I live about 5 miles from work. Grocery stores, 2 malls and Wall mart are all within about 7 miles.

I take issues w/ Indianapolisguy's post of Aug 24. A hybrid on a trip does not run the engine all the time nullifying the results. On my last trip (~24oo miles) I average about 46 mpg on the interstate if I keep the speed at 70 mph. I can run about 500 miles on a tank and fill up only twice between leaving Florida and arriving at my destination in Indiana.

An electric only vehicle is not practical for driving on a vacation across country or on business trips of several thousand miles...would leave you stranded. If it was a hybrid vehicle, it would be running the engine the entire time nullifying the hybrid's supposed advantage. Far better to get a gas/diesel engine only vehicle. Quick stops like refilling your vehicle's tank at a gas station in 5 minutes along with a 15 minute break to get out and walk around are not possible with an electric vehicle and be back on the road in 20 minutes.
